Lighting the fire is the first thing we do whenever we come home so we leave you with a basket of logs, kindling and matches. The views from the windows are breathtaking as are the birds at low tide so there’s a window seat and binoculars. For rainy days, the Smart TV comes into its own or you can play board games, read books or battle each other on the Wii.
Well equipped, the kitchen has everything you need for your stay. We also provide some “essentials” including capsules for the Nespresso, ground coffee for the cafeterie, dishwashing tablets and washing powder, rubbish bags and some biscuits in case you’re peckish when you arrive.
We are set up for families with a highchair, baby gates, baby bath, a travel cot, a z bed for under 12’s and children’s cutlery and plates. The front garden is flat and suitable for little ones to play whilst being supervised and the rear garden is ripe for exploring with older children with steep banks, a stream and direct access onto the hills behind. The Gareloch is just over the road in front and offers hours of fun at low tide.
Loch Long is best the spot to go shrimping and it’s 15 minutes drive away.
N.B: Baby gates cannot be fitted at the top of the stairs, the garden is not secure and children must be supervised at all times

If you or a member of your party develops symptoms of Covid-19 during your stay (a continuous cough, high temperature, or loss or change in taste and smell), it is important that you let us know as soon as possible. There is a different set of procedures that applies in the event of suspected actual case of the virus at a site that we would need to follow. Government advice if you suspect you have developed the symptoms of Covid-19 is for you and your party to go home and self-isolate there:
“If a guest presents themselves with symptoms or Covid-19 or is asymptomatic but declares the need to self-isolate, they should be advised to check out and return home to self-isolate according to current government guidance. If the guest has acute symptoms, has breathing difficulties, or their life is at potential risk, seek medical help immediately.”
If you cannot return home for any reason, their circumstances should be discussed with a health care professional and, if necessary, the local authority. Guests cannot isolate at the property.
It is important to get a test as soon as possible. Visit NHSinform.scot/test-and-protect or call 0800 028 2816.
If you need essential help, call the National Assistance Helpline: 0800 111 400 (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm)
We are members of the ASSC and will be following their Government endorsed cleaning protocols Balquidder has always been deep cleaned between each guest as standard. Our housekeeping team will now clean then sanitise in full PPE paying extra attention to high “touch” areas like door handles, light switches and the banisters and we will ask guests to help us protect staff with the bagging of linen at the end of their stay.
Click on any book now button and you will be taken to the availability calendar and rates page. We accept payment via Sage Pay or bank transfer only.
Yes we do! Up to 3 free of charge but please keep them downstairs and it goes without saying please pick up after them. The garden isn’t secure but a bonus of that is direct access onto the hills behind the house.
You can check in from 1600 onwards using the key box. We will send you the code the week before your stay.
We have a strict 1000 check out time and this is particularly important during this pandemic as the housekeeping team need the extra time to get Balquidder sanitised as well as the usual deep clean.
You can have food delivered by all the usual supermarkets except Ocado who don’t deliver in this area.
If you want to stock up with shopping as soon as you arrive, the closest proper supermarket is located in Rosneath, turn right out of the drive and 12 minutes’ drive will take you to the Co-Op in the heart of the village. There are bigger supermarkets in Helensburgh like the Co-Op who have parking.
Yes, you can. You can access the hills behind the house direct from the garden. It’s very boggy, muddy and slippery going over the stream up the hill but with a stout stick and a sense of humour you’ll make it. It’s what we do when home and just going for a quick leg stretch with the dogs.
The fabulous Kaye Cavendish who we commissioned to breath new life into a much loved family chair and also to make the cushions for the trunk by the window. She’s based here in Garelochhead and has a fabulous online shop with some very Scottish things that would make great mementos of your time up here.
An amazingly talented Rhu based artist who discovered she could paint aged 46! We’ve known Wendy since she started walking our dogs and her artwork is gorgeous. I know some of the dogs she’s drawn and her ability to capture the character is extraordinary.
